With a pint of organic tart cherries and blueberries sitting inside the refrigerator all week, and no recipe planned for them, we decided to add them to a smoothie. Introducing the Hearty Heart Smoothie. This smoothie features fruits and veggies that are dark red, such as cherries, and dark blue, like blueberries. This smoothie is an antioxidant powerhouse.
Cherries & Blueberries: The Heart’s Favorite Fruits
Firstly, when we consume cherries, we decrease the oxidative stress inside our blood vessels and increases our blood vessels’ nitric oxide levels. These protect our blood vessels from major vascular complications that may lead to chronic diseases – such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and cardiovascular diseases.
Also, both cherries and blueberries have been shown to increase enzyme activity, oxygen consumption, and heat production in fat cells. Consequently, these berries spark your metabolism. Maybe their most precious benefit is that they are powerful cancer fighters, thanks to their phytonutrient levels and anti-inflammatory properties.
With all this being said, the consumption of colorful, fresh fruits, like these two super-friends, can be vital to heart health. They contain several polyphenols and vitamins, which increase antioxidant levels, and directly protect our hearts. So, fill-up your blender with cherries and blueberries!
Green Tea: Nutrients Galore
Another helpful, healthy heart ingredient in this smoothie is green tea. Green tea improves blood flow and lowers cholesterol. Additionally, a 2013 review of many studies found green tea helped prevent a range of heart-related issues, from high blood pressure to congestive heart failure.
So, if you want to make sure you are getting the nutrients you need for a healthy heart – then drink this smoothie daily! This recipe is delicious and easy to prepare. Perhaps, most importantly, this smoothie protects your blood vessels and heart!
- 1 packet B3H+® Lean Body Protein Powder
- 1 tablespoon B3H+® Fit Gut (L-Glutamine) powder
- 1/2 cup organic tart cherries (fresh or frozen)
- 1 cup green tea (chilled, organic preferred)
- 1/2 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
- 1 cup celery
- 1 cup spinach
- 1 tablespoon flaxseed (ground)
- Ice cubes (optional)
Note: When selecting fruits and vegetables always look for organic. Their benefits decrease substantially f they’ve been sprayed with pesticides from the seed stage of growth or genetically modified. Buy organic and, whenever possible, from local farmers.
