This Chocolate Goji Berry smoothie is packed with what your body and thyroid need to have an energetic and blood-balancing start to the day.
Goji berries are also known as Chinese wolfberries. They have long been proclaimed a superfood due to their slew of impressive health benefits. They are known to fight aging (reversing free radical damage), control the onset of diabetes, plus these tiny seeds contain high amounts fiber which helps relieve symptoms of constipation which aids in weight loss. Use several large handfuls of dried goji berries which equates to about 1 cup. They are so nutritionally potent, you’ve got to add them to your hormone balancing diet!
What is in goji berries (based on ¼ cup):
- ¼ cup of dried Goji’s contain 25 micrograms (50% DRI). Selenium is one of the key minerals most thyroid patients are deficient in and it’s much needed in the conversion of T4 to T3 hormone. Selenium is a key nutrient to restoring your thyroid function.
- Vitamin C. Vitamin C content in ¼ cup of goji berries acts as a potent anti-toxin and can even help curb your appetite.
- Riboflavin (vitamin B2). At 1.3 mg, ¼ cup of dried gogi berries provide 50% of RDA.They are also a fantastic source of potassium, calcium and zinc.
It’s best to soak the goji berries for at least 2 hours, or simply leave them overnight to soak so they are ready the next day. But, do not throw out the soaking water, rather add to your smoothie.
This smoothie also contains fresh squeezed lemon to add some zest — which supports your liver detoxification for optimal thyroid nutrition. A clean liver is key in sustaining balanced hormones and a healthy body.
Finally, you might pause before adding cinnamon in other drinks besides eggnog or chai tea, but you should actually consider using it more to help reach your weight loss goals. 1 packet B3H+® Lean Body Protein Powder
1 cup dried goji berries (or cherries)
2 tbsp raw unsweetened cacao
1 tbsp coconut butter
½ cup of pumpkin seeds
¼ cup hazelnuts, pre-soaked overnight
1 tsp vanilla extract
